Superimpose Saturday #9

I can’t wait to see Interstellar! I’m obsessed with space travel and astronomy, as i’m sure most of you are too. The exciting lure of the unknown is too great to ignore. Matthew McConaughey will be planet-hopping in the partly solar-powered Endurance:

I have chosen something a little more agile for my journey through space. I’m sure you recognize this space transporter:

Jodie Foster is my favorite actress. She’s wonderfully talented and a great role model. However, i did not find her space adventure film (Contact) to be all that exciting. Her character ended up landing on a planet and was missing for a good 18 hours. There is a lot of speculation, as to what actually transpired during this scene. There was a lack of clarity around this in the film:

Sci-fi fans are hoping that Interstellar has no such loopholes:

Are you looking forward to seeing Interstellar? What film is your favorite space adventure to date?

  1. Reblogged this on Brainfluff and commented:
Like Kirsten, I love my science fiction films – particularly if they’re well done. My favourites – ‘Moon’ and ‘Gattaca’… But ‘Interstellar sounds very promising. What are your favourites?

  2. I love my sci-fi too especially time travel. Interstellar sounds very promising to me as well. Good reviews or bad I’ll always give sci-fi a shot to see for myself.

I loved “Contact” but I’m like you I would have liked a little more clarity towards the ending.

I like so many of them though I wouldn’t be able to pick one, all time favorite.

  3. Okay, that would be the most awesome ending. Welcome to the world of Jodie Fosters, every person there is Jodie Foster, lol. Planet of the Jodie Fosters!

On a side note, wasn’t Matthew McConaughey the priest in Contact? Anyway I think the vague ending was the point of the movie, some things in life take an act of faith, not everything has answers. (Although I would have really loved some, lol). My biggest problem with the movie is the length, it’s a long movie for that payoff that is a pretty big let down. If it had been shorter, the ending might not have been so bad (for me anyway).

Interstellar comes out this weekend! Okay, I am hyped now!

  4. Hmm, space films… Event Horizon. Scared the tits off me as a kid, and did the whole “dangerous space travel” thing pretty well. Alien also. Recently, Guardians, because I’m in love with the idea of space as a kind of wild west for bounty hunters. Also Firefly for the same reason. If I had to pick a spaceship, it’d be the millennium falcon for sure 😀 I just need a hairy friend to fix it for me all the time

  5. In no particular order: Star Wars, Star Trek, the remade Battlestar Gallactica, 2001: Space Odyssey, Silent Running, Alien and its sequel, as well as some of the sci-fi created before we humans actually left our own atmosphere.

One of my favourites in this last category is It! The Terror from Beyond Space (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051786/). It was made in 1958 and set in the distant future of 1978. It’s a pretty sorry movie, to be honest, but you’ll howl with laughter at its vision of a future in which women can be doctors! and astronauts! but still get the men coffee after dinner, and naturally we’ll want to take a wooden crate full of WW2 surplus hand grenades with us when we go to Mars.
