Pen vs Pencil

As nerds; we love comic books; and therefore we love illustrations. In this day and age most comic illustrations are done digitally, but for those of us who aren’t pro’s – we still revert back to the piece of paper to house our ideas.

My friends and i love drawing and storytelling; but there is the dilemma of pen vs pencil when it comes to our artwork. Pencil is obviously better for error correction; and you get better tones when shading. However; people ALWAYS feel the need to prod at artwork when you show it to them; as if looking at it is not enough. This need for touching leads to smudging on the artwork; even if you do use those spray resins to avoid this.

So that is what forced me to draw in pen. If you make one mistake you have to start over; and shading in ink is terribly difficult. But in the end i have come to prefer pen; and its boldness. Here is some examples of my pen artwork:

  1. Do you mind if I quote a couple of your articles as long as I provide credit and sources back to your weblog?
My blog is in the exact same area of interest as yours and
my users would certainly benefit from some of the information you provide here.
Please let me know if this alright with you.

    Many thanks!

  2. Wow, the way you use pen is amazing. What pens are you using? I use pen because I tend to be too tentative with pencil, and granted I have only a tiny fraction of your skill, but there’s no way I could shade with it the way you do.

  3. Great work! The depth in your illustrations are very defined. Personally, I prefer pencils because of lack of confidence in my drawings but it is true that using pen has a certain boldness with it. Looking forward to see more of your work and maybe some original illustrations in the future.

  4. Thank you for liking “Replicas of Famous Landmarks.” Fantastic illustrations! 🙂 I am more comfortable doing pencil sketches, but this year I tried to do a pen and pencil illustration. I agree that sketching with a pen is more challenging, but I do like the way pen drawings look.
